A parent asked for separate invigilation and extra time for board exams. I said 'I'll look into it.'

Reality: our school has never done this. We don't have the infrastructure, and no one at the board office seems to know the law allows it.

So do I fight the system for one student? Tell the parent we can't accommodate? Ignore the request? If you're a school leader, teacher, or parent who's navigated this — what's the path forward that doesn't require hiring lawyers?

Pinning the legal anchor: the RPWD Act (2016) and exam-board guidelines do provide for accommodations like extra time, scribes, and separate rooms — 'we've never done it' isn't the same as 'we can't.' The realistic first step is a written request to the board citing the provision. Has anyone here set this up at a school for the first time?

We did it for the first time last year. It was paperwork and persistence, not lawyers — the board had a process buried in their circulars once we asked the right office. Document every email.
