Small strategies that actually work in a packed classroom

Eight years teaching, and after a few ND students I realized: changing my approach changes everything. Small things that work:

- Movement breaks built into the lesson, not as a reward - Fidget tools on desks, not treated as contraband - Instructions given in writing and spoken - Timers for transitions - Celebrating effort, not just correctness

None of this needs a budget โ€” just intention. What's one small thing you do that costs nothing but makes a huge difference?

Visual agenda on the board every day, ticked off as we go. Costs nothing, and the whole class settles when they can see the shape of the lesson.
