My kid's diagnosis, and suddenly 'oh… that's me too'

My kid got diagnosed. Now I'm reading about ADHD in adults and going 'oh.' My whole childhood makes sense — the job struggles, the relationships, the organization chaos. It all clicks.

The parent group says 'you're not alone, lots of parents discover they're ND too.' But I also don't want to armchair-diagnose myself.

If you've gone down this road (kid's diagnosis → realizing you might be ND too): what helped? Did you seek your own assessment? Did it change how you show up for your kid's journey?

This 'oh' moment is one of the most common stories in this whole community. Recognizing yourself in your kid's diagnosis isn't self-pathologizing — it's new information about an old story. Did understanding yourself change how you parent the journey?

Getting my own assessment after my nephew's changed everything — I stopped parenting from shame and started from understanding. Even if you never get a formal label, the self-compassion alone is worth it.
