Sibling support without comparison

How to talk about differences without making any sibling feel less seen.

Siblings notice everything — including when one child seems to get more attention or different rules. The goal isn't identical treatment; it's each child feeling individually known.

What helps

  • Frame needs, not ranks: 'Everyone gets what they need, and needs look different.'
  • Protect a little one-on-one time with each child that isn't about the diagnosis.
  • Let siblings have their own hard feelings without rushing to fix or hush them.

Avoid casting a sibling as a junior carer. They can be kind and helpful without their childhood becoming a job.

'It's not fair' usually means 'I need to feel seen too.' That's answerable — and worth answering.
