You can often shape the interview before you walk in. Many employers will accommodate requests if you ask plainly — and many are legally expected to.
Adjustments worth requesting
- The questions in advance, or the broad topics.
- A quieter room or a virtual option to cut sensory load.
- Extra time, or breaks in a longer process.
- Written materials alongside anything spoken.
Frame it simply: 'To interview at my best, could we [adjustment]?' You don't have to over-explain to make a reasonable ask.
Asking for an adjustment isn't a red flag to a good employer — it's a preview of someone who knows how they work best.
